Hey Zach! Just a thought but if you end up making a course/ebook you may want to start laying the groundwork now. I love seeing monthly blog stats (you could add them to your monthly financial post) and that could go a long way towards documenting the stats you’ll most likely be using anyways to market your course. Just a thought 😀

I think you are definitely on the right path and will be living your vision out sooner than later! I can’t believe how long I went in life before I heard about passive income, and then how long I went after that before I thoroughly understood passive income and what it might look like in my life. I still trade my time for money (as you say), but I keep in mind a Warren Buffet quote where he said, “If you don’t find a way to make money in your sleep, you will never retire.” Interesting…. thanks for your example.

Hi,

The journey to FIRE is simple as below:

1) Consistent investment in stock from the remuneration from the full-time employment. Such investment strategy will lead to the increase in generated dividend.

2) Maintain or reduce (if possible) the expense.

It does not matter how the market is faring. As long as the generated dividends cover the expense, one will have the option at his/her disposal.

Totally agree with this. There are things you can easily control (savings) and things you can’t easily control (returns). The other thing you can control is time. The earlier you start the easier it is to turn that 10 year period into a 11 or 12 year or 20 year period.

Also, the thing that I would add to your analysis is that dividends should help the 10 year returns picture (or did you already include that?).

It looks to me that your potential for earnings are way greater than your potential for loss. Save what you can and let the market do it’s thing!

“Passion is cultivated, not discovered.” I could not agree more with you Zach and I hope many 18-20’s year olds read this because it is such an important life lesson. Like you, I too went through a lot of jobs and internships in my college years in an attempt to “discover” my passion. It’s only years later that I realized that passion doesn’t just fall into our laps but is created through pursuing our interests.

On another note, just want to say I recently discovered your blog and love your writing!

Nobody is tracking your failures is such an important concept. As a life-long perfectionist who hates showing any type of weakness, I still struggle to remember this in my 40s.

I’m better when I just try without the fear of failure. For me, that’s been one of the freeing parts of financial independence – less worry about needing to be perfect professionally.
