Through the combination of an unusual skill set and a great network I earn a six figure income from one day a week of work, so far, for the first three years of my early retirement. I enjoy the work, which is why I do it, because I have more than enough invested to live off the passive income it generates. But I enjoy my life more with that one day of working plus a couple of days of unpaid volunteer work added in per week. I could have retired much earlier since my withdrawal rate is zero but I actually loved my job so much I would have done it for free for most of my career. I know that makes me a weird guy but being an engineer I’m supposed to be weird, in a dull sort of way.
