Sunday is for Sharing is a weekly roundup of my favorite articles, videos, and podcasts I read, viewed, and listened to over the past week.
This week features an article on the beauty of pursuing growth without goals, why one blogger thinks the “early retirement” movement is a big mistake, and much more. Enjoy!
My Favorite Video
https://vimeo.com/127857162
This six minute video of Alex Honnold climbing a 2,500 foot mountain in Mexico without a rope is absolutely insane. My palms actually got sweaty watching this.
On a related note, this reminds me of a great documentary I watched on Netflix this week about rock climbers called Valley Uprising. Check that out too if you’re looking for a good documentary to watch.
My Favorite Articles
Growth Without Goals
via The Investor’s Field Guide
“There is always that stupid interview question: where do you see yourself or your company in five years. Instead, we should ask, what things do you think are important to do every day?”
The Year in Technology: 2017 in Charts
via Bloomberg Gadfly
“The biggest technology companies dominate the stock market like no other point in recent history.”
How My Savings Saved Me
“I now understand what the hell I was saving all that money for. It wasn’t for a big house, a fancy car, or any material good. My savings were and still are for opening doors and creating opportunities to build the life and lifestyle I want to have.”
The Early Retirement Blog Movement is a Big Mistake
via Damn Millennial
“If you are lucky enough to have talent, opportunity, and fortune come together to retire at a very early age, give back. Retirement is nothing I envy. I envy those who live a full and passionate life.”
My Husband Died at Age 34. Here are 40 Life Lessons I’ve Learnt.
via Keisha Blair
“None of the wealth accumulated is buried with you. Not the money, the house, the car, or the prestige. Your title at work does not go on your tombstone.”
My Favorite Podcast
The Happiness Smile
This is a new podcast I stumbled upon this week. Each episode is about 25 – 30 minutes long and it features Ben Carlson from A Wealth of Common Sense and Michael Batnick from The Irrelevant Investor discussing a wide variety of topics related to money and personal finance.
In this episode, they discuss how the new tax reform means lower income taxes for virtually everyone, why happiness tends to decline in middle age and rise again near age 50, and much more. The chemistry between these two guys is hilarious and I look forward to listening to more of their podcast episodes in 2018.
That’s all for this week, thanks for reading 🙂

I was just in New Zealand, and after a few hikes, of course I fell down the morbid rabbit hole of reading about climbing accidents where I was. Somehow I came across Alex Honnold! Fifty feet makes me sweat, much less 2,500. Jeez.
Alex Honnold is so impressive. I saw him on a Nat Geo magazine cover a few years ago, then rediscovered him in the Valley Uprising documentary, then just happened to see him in this Vimeo video this week. I’m not a big fan of heights myself so just watching the video was enough to get my adrenaline pumping.
Hope you enjoyed New Zealand! That’s near the top of my bucket list for places to visit.
Hey Zach,
Thanks for sharing!
No problem, great article man!
