Sunday is for Sharing is a weekly roundup of my favorite articles, videos, and podcasts I read, viewed, and listened to over the past week.
This week features a motivational video from retired Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, a story of how being homeless impacted one woman’s view on finance and happiness, and much more. Enjoy!
My Favorite Video
Jocko Willink is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL. In this video he explains what he does on days when he’s “just not feeling it”. If this doesn’t get you hyped up to go tackle the day, nothing will.
My Favorite Articles
Traveling After Financial Independence
via Mr. Tako Escapes
“My work life used to be really stressful — late nights, long hours, and working on weekends. One reason I traveled was just to get a mental break from all the stress…Now that we’re financially independent, life is very relaxed. My stress level is almost zero. I simply don’t need to travel in order to relax anymore!
What Being Homeless Taught Me About Money and Happiness
via Lyn Alden
“Being homeless in my youth let me experience at least some small part of the rougher side of the spectrum. All these years later, it still helps put things into perspective when I encounter day-to-day problems.”
Reflecting on the First 26 Days of Early Retirement
“In the past, I simply viewed the week as the days I would work. If I had to leave my office, it was to eat or run a very quick errand. Now that I retired, it’s amazing how great it is to go out and do things without crowds of employed people to compete with.”
Forons (Financial Morons)
“I bite my tongue when overhearing others making idiotic financial choices. After all, it’s someone else’s finances, not my own…Still, I find it frustrating hearing bad financial choices being made.”
Wise People Have Rules for Themselves
via Raptitude
“Self-imposed rules aren’t constraints, they’re good decisions made in batches—they’re behavioral boundary markers you get to position yourself, through your own experience and wisdom.”
My Favorite Podcast
The Happy Philosopher: Semi-retirement and Finding Happiness
An interview with Jeff from The Happy Philosopher, a blogger and medical professional who shares his insights on how to live a happy life through smart financial decisions, meditation, job-sharing, and other life-hacks. This is a podcast I listened to not once, but twice this week because there were so many nuggets of wisdom and insight in it. Jeff does a particularly good job of pointing out that happiness is the end goal, not wealth.
That’s all for this week, thanks for reading 🙂
