Sunday is for Sharing is a weekly roundup of my favorite articles, videos, and podcasts I read, viewed, and listened to over the past week.
This week features one semi-retired couple who lives in an RV, an interactive map that shows the median income of every U.S. county, and much more. Enjoy!
My Favorite Video
“I said yes to every opportunity that involved picking up a camera.”
My Favorite Articles
We’re semi-retired and living in an RV. It’s not as ghastly as it may sound.
“According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the over-65 set is expected to be the fastest-growing demographic in the workplace by 2024. So why shouldn’t our work require just a few hours each day moving boxes in a warehouse or raking leaves or cleaning a toilet or two at the RV park?”
Letter to My Younger Self
“So lucky for you, even though you’re about to go through some real s***, you got the DNA of some motherf***ing go-getters.”
Shame, Status, and the American Dream
“What would you think if your successful doctor or lawyer or local business owner lived in an average middle class house?”
Interactive: Visualizing Median Income For All 3,000 + U.S. Counties
“This map covers all 3,007 U.S. counties using color coding to show the richest and poorest counties based on median income, and it also allows users to drill down to the stats on counties at the state level.”
Why Are You Doing?
via Derek Sivers
“The most important thing in life is to know why you are doing what you’re doing. Most people don’t know. They just go with the flow.”
My Favorite Podcast
The Art of Tracking, with Boyd Varty
A highly entertaining podcast episode with Boyd Varty, a man who grew up in the South African Bush, living among and tracking wild leopards. The main theme of this episode is tracking, and how the same strategy for following animals can be applied to different aspects of life. Boyd also shares his thoughts on the achievement vs. goal-oriented mindset and what he learned from spending time with Nelson Mandela when he was younger.
Bonus
A couple other things I found this week that I liked:
Video: How the Economic Machine Works, according to Ray Dalio – an awesome 30 min. video by investing legend Ray Dalio on how the economy works. Watch at 1.25x speed.
Stitcher – an app that lets you download literally every podcast imaginable and listen to it offline.
That’s all for this week, thanks for reading 🙂
